A major union wants the Queensland Government to appoint a special coordinator-general to protect jobs.
The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) held its state council meeting in Brisbane today.
The State Government already has a jobs taskforce but union spokesman Andrew Dettmer says manufacturing needs special attention.
"We need a coordinator-general for manufacturing which will link government efforts to the work that is being done, the very good work which is being done in major projects here in Queensland," he said.
"We think that if that is done than Queensland is going to be in a very strong position to be ableto ride out this global financial crisis and come out the other end."
